Iranian high rank delegation including: Mr. Jabar Kouchaki Nejad, parliament member and vice president; education and research commission of Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran, Dr. K. A. Shahdi, CWARice head and Dr. F. Alinia, that time D.G. of RRII visited the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) at Los Banos, Philippines on 4-9 December 2017. IRRI is a premier research organization dedicated to reducing poverty and hunger through rice science; improving the health and welfare of rice farmers and consumers; and protecting the rice growing environment for future generations.
They had fruitful meetings with Director General of IRRI, Dr. Matthew Morell and Dr. V. Bruce J. Tolentino, Deputy Director-General and Secretary, IRRI Board of Trustees on IRRI-CWARice-Iran cooperation. They also discussed issues over research agenda. By signing MOA between CWA courtiers, D.G. of IRRI announced IRRI acceptance to renewing rice R&D collaboration with CWARice covering 10 Central and West Asian countries.
Dr. Morell admired sincerely astonishing performance of CWARice under Dr. Shahdi’s leadership considering sanctions against Iran. They expressed willingness to support CWARice technicaly in line with its 5-year work plan for CWA region.
Delegation visited the Long Term Continuous Cropping Experiment and International Rice Genebank at IRRI. As well, a gathering with authorities of University of Philippines held on developing long term educational plans for rice scientists of Central and West Asia.
At the last day on Friday 8 Dec., 2017, a fruitful meeting held with Mr. Tanhaei, H.E. Ambassador of Iran in Philippines at Makata city.
